Meet Terri Roberts – Assistant Digital Learning Developer

At Princes, we are focused on providing a vibrant learning environment to support people development and their personal career progression. Terri moved into our Learning & Development team in 2023. Terri says:

Personal development is important to Princes and there is a focus on providing the best possible training, resources, mentoring and coaching to colleagues to support them in their career.

We are continuing to evolve learning opportunities to suit the different stages of people’s careers and we have a Learning Platform to help support this.

We provide live online training sessions, classroom-based training, resources, and tools that colleagues can access, and the opportunity for them to share their knowledge with peers.

My focus is on the digital aspect of L&D and creating learning modules, campaigns, online events, and training resources. I also work closely with our IT Team to share weekly IT Top Tips to help colleagues get the most out of our systems.

Growing up, I was never really sure what I wanted to do, and I’m a little ball of energy, so I bounced around for a bit after leaving university, before finding Princes.

I’ve done quite a few different roles in the business, including Customer Care and Order Fulfilment. I loved working for our Customer Service Team but after my daughter was born, I decided I wanted to reduce my working hours so I could spend more time with her. Princes were really supportive of this, and I took on a job share as an Executive Assistant to the Director of IT.

Despite reducing my hours, I still wanted to focus on progression and finding a role that suited me. I was fortunate that my role as an EA eventually led me to our Learning & Development Team. I collaborated with them on several projects as I worked predominately on communications for IT and found I had a real interest in both L&D theory and design.

As my daughter is getting older and now has a busy social life, I decided to refocus on my career and share my interest in moving into the L&D team, which was met with support from both colleagues and management.

It’s great to be doing a job I feel passionate about and where you have the support of good people around you who recognise your skills and can help you to develop.

It’s a brilliant company to work for. We have flexible and hybrid working – I currently work three days a week, so I still have time with my daughter (mainly to taxi her around!) and have time in the office.

I feel like I’m at the start of where I want to go in my career, and I’m surrounded by people who are very open and generous with their time. There’s lots more for me to learn and there’s space for me to do it. It’s very exciting and challenging.
